Amazon Studios signs first deal with production company Sonic the Hedgehog for video game adaptations


Amazon Studios has signed a first agreement with DJ2 Entertainment, the production company behind the record sonic the hedgehog movie and upcoming grave robber animated series on Netflix. The deal will see DJ2 Entertainment create and produce video game adaptations to stream on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories around the world. DJ2 Entertainment is founded by CEO Dmitri M. Johnson and led by longtime gamers such as Dan Jevons, Stephan Bugaj, Howard Bliss and Tim Stevenson. The company specializes in adapting video games into popular television series and movies to delight fans of all genres.

“The dj2 team has long believed that video games will one day serve as an incredible source for the stories told on television and in film, and that it was only the lack of love and respect for the art form which previously held back successful adaptations,” Dmitri said. A partner who truly supports us and our high ambitions to tell the best international gaming stories without any limits on the height that we can collectively aim for.”

Along with his adaptations of sonic the hedgehog and grave robberwhich already has an order for two seasons and is currently in production, DJ2 Entertainment is also busy with Amazon Studios Blue Coyote starring Sterling K. Brown and directed by Hanelle Culpepper and written by John Wick creator Derek Kolstad and 2021 “Game of the Year” winner It takes two. There are also revivals of Teddy Ruxpin and Sega’s Toe Jam and Earl in the works.

DJ2 Entertainment has another first-look deal with Swedish video game publisher Raw Fury. The partnership will see DJ2 help adapt Raw Fury’s catalog of games for TV and film projects. Some of the Raw Fury games include norcothe first-ever Tribeca Games Award winner and indie hit Sable.

Paramount Pictures has announced that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is currently in the works, along with a Sonic the Hedgehog 2 TV spin-off starring Knuckles and voiced by Idris Elba.
