“I Am a Survivor: The Aftermath” explores survivors and their testimonies of the process of healing and recovery after experiencing gun violence

LOS ANGELES, OH, UNITED STATES, November 8, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ – Shoot Films Not People, the film production company and clothing brand steeped in social justice, is pleased to announce the release of a new rotating art exhibition titled “I am a survivor: the consequences”. The specially curated virtual exhibit by Mya Baker presents and challenges people to broaden their perspectives on gun violence and perhaps see things differently through a series of videos and photos.

The exhibition aims to give voice to survivors Ignite and Albert Alcarez, victims of snipers, bringing to the fore the effects of gun violence on individuals, families, children and their communities. This exhibit examines gun violence in America by focusing on the experience of survivors. The exhibition features photography by Stephanie O’Conner and video by Zarian Hadley.

“It’s critical that people know that even though the bullet doesn’t have a name, the person it hits has one,” said Baker, studio manager and CEO of Shoot Films Not People. “I want the audience to see and experience these stories more, with the real hope that next time people won’t try to solve problems or get revenge by quickly grabbing a gun without thinking.” The exhibit encourages people to learn to literally pause and breathe before a shooter takes action that can be fatal, with lifelong consequences for everyone involved. Baker quoted Stevie Wonder, who said, “Gun violence is real. People are not coming back.

She continued: “Indeed, our society has become almost completely numb to gun violence. What is different about our message is to highlight the experience of the survivor and those around him, because gun violence does not occur. not always end in death. We must give a voice to those who survive terror and trauma. “I Am a Survivor” is a rotating exhibition that will feature people from all walks of life who, in one way or another. ‘another, were unfortunately in the crosshairs. “

Shoot Films Not People is a production company inspired by Rodney King’s verdict and Baker’s love for cinema. She began her film production career in 2003 and has two feature documentaries in distribution, “Silence” and “Afraid of Dark”.

Last year, just before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, I added Shoot Films Not People branded clothing for our social justice cause. Currently, I am opening pop-ups all over Los Angeles.
