Journalism Trainer, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty Video Production |


We are looking for an experienced journalism trainer for video production. In this role, you will be responsible for providing training to journalism and operational staff at RFE/RL on creating cross-platform visual storytelling that is of high editorial, technical and visual quality and in line with RFE/RL’s overall strategy and the mission of the organization. and standards.

Reporting to the Journalism Training Manager, this position works with other RFE/RL trainers, editors and producers to design and deliver in-person and online training workshops, support efficient workflows and drive innovation digital production first to keep RFE/RL Visual Content trending and relevant to its target audience.

The incumbent actively advances collaboration within and between teams throughout RFE/RL and helps colleagues adapt to changes in their media environment by providing strong training support for strategic programming initiatives.


  • In conjunction with the Journalism Training Manager and in agreement with senior management of the News Division, designs and delivers in-person and online training workshops in a range of video production skills

  • Trains journalists on live broadcast and control room protocol

  • Works with RFE/RL journalists and technical support to find quick operational solutions for creative and compelling digital products.

  • Collaborates with Journalism Training, Digital Strategy, Operations and Editor-in-Chief to shape video release strategy across all digital platforms

  • Monitors the news media industry for innovative approaches to video products, platforms and processes

  • Facilitates individual and group training sessions as needed

  • Review and provide feedback on the Services’ video products and processes

  • Travels to offices or third countries to organize on-site trainings if necessary

  • Manages the learning platform for RFE/RL journalism training

  • Provides other administrative or production support services as required



  • University education in communication/journalism, certificate in media studies or equivalent experience.

Professional experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in digital production for a journalistic outfit.

  • At least 2 years of experience in journalism training and project management

  • Familiarity with video production best practices, rules and industry regulations and standards


  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance

  • Familiarity with the RFE/RL mission and journalistic standards

  • Knowledge of RFE/RL platforms and digital techniques

  • Strong editorial and technical skills for designing hands-on workshops

  • Patience and ability to multi-task while managing multiple tasks

  • Ability to meet a deadline and show others how to prioritize to meet deadlines.
