Plastic Omnium says it provides Lucid with engineering and production services for its first electric sedan, the Air.
The supplier’s engineering and production experience has supported the Silicon Valley-based automaker in its ambition to design an electric vehicle for the past five years.
Plastic Omnium’s mission was to bring the design intent to life, creating and delivering the Air’s front and rear panels, including the fascias, rocker panels and trunk lid.
To meet the design challenges imposed by Lucid, Plastic Omnium has created and produced its largest composite trunk lid ever.
Exterior panels are produced at Plastic Omnium’s Silao and Ramos plants in Mexico for delivery to Lucid’s Casa Grande plant in Arizona.
“The duration of our working relationship has enabled the emergence of breakthrough innovations, such as the largest trunk lid on the market,” said Stéphane Noël, CEO of Plastic Omnium Intelligent Exterior Systems.
Through its composite solutions, Plastic Omnium notes that it contributes to the autonomy achieved by the Lucid Air via weight gain, a key criterion for any electric vehicle.
